Hans De Marie Heungoup studied at the Catholic University of Central Africa in Cameroon, Sciences Po Paris in France, and the University of Ghent in Belgium, where he obtained a PhD in Political Science. He has 15 years of experience working in research institutions and think tanks, including the Paul Ango Ela Foundation of Geopolitics in Central Africa and the International Crisis Group, as well as in intergovernmental organisations. His areas of research and expertise include the sociology of the state, epistemology, defence and security issues, armed mobilisations, and rebel governance. Geographically, he has focused his work on Central Africa, the Lake Chad Basin and Kenya. He has authored or co-authored around 20 international scientific reports, as well as publishing a dozen academic articles and book chapters. He has also published extensively in global media outlets.
