Dr. Michael Nwankpa discusses about Women’s representation in Africa’s political space with Dinah Musindarwezo and Dr. Damilola Agbalajobi.

Dinah is an accomplished senior leader with extensive experience of leading and supporting women’s rights organizations and feminist movements globally, with a particular focus on Africa. Trained as a Gender and Development professional, brings extensive knowledge and expertise of international policy and advocacy in the social justice sector to advance gender equality and women’s rights.

She has collaborated closely with those most affected by inequalities to design innovative strategies and approaches to address their systematic and structural barriers. Widely networked and an exceptional communicator able to build trust and influence stakeholders across multilateral institutions such as African Union, UN, World Bank & IMF; Governments; Donors; Media; and Civil Society Organizations to support progressive and transformative agendas for a better world for all.

Dr. Damilola is an experienced Lecturer with a demonstrated history of working in the research industry. Skilled in Politics, Policy Analysis, Political Science, Analytical Skills, and Data Analysis. With sound knowledge of field research in political science and the use of the mixed method in research analysis. Strong education professional with a Master of Science focused in Political Science from University of Ilorin, and a Ph.D. in Political Science, University of Lagos.

About the Host

Dr Michael Nwankpa has an extensive experience spanning over a decade studying, researching, writing and consulting on conflict and development issues in Africa.

Michael Nwankpa has a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Roehampton, London, UK. He has held several research fellowships including as a Rice University Fellow and a terrorism research Fellow (past) at the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Response to Terrorism (START), University of Maryland. He is currently a fellow at the Royal United Service Institute for Defense and Security Studies (RUSI) and a research fellow at the Geneva-based Centre on Armed Groups. Dr. Nwankpa has extensive experience studying counterterrorism and counterinsurgency strategies, advising relevant government development departments and security agencies, and consulting for multilateral organizations. Michael is the author of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, 1999-2021: A Militarized Democracy (Routledge 2022) and co-author of the seminal work on Boko Haram, The Boko Haram Reader: From Nigerian Preachers to the Islamic State (Oxford University Press/Hurst 2018). He has written several articles and is currently working on three book projects.
