Justice Emmanuel Jatau Samaila, Esq. is a Judge of the Upper Customary Court, Kaduna State Judiciary in Nigeria. He is an alumnus of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the Nigerian Law School. After a brief stint in legal practice, he joined the Kaduna State Judiciary as a Legal Research Officer in 2008 and was appointed as a Judge in 2010. As the Editor-in-Chief of the Kaduna State Association of Customary Courts Judges’ Law Report, HW Samaila made significant contributions towards empowering his colleagues with proper knowledge and interpretation of the law with the sole aim of enhancing their effectiveness and efficiency in dispute resolution. His passion for reading aligns with his being an ardent researcher and writer whose papers are being published by the SSRN and other platforms for wider reach. His legal research and legal writing skills are targeted towards improving dispute resolution. His paper titled The Abolition of the Customary Court of Appeal in some States in Nigeria: Issues and Prospects emphasized the need to ensure the continuous existence of the Customary Court of Appeal and its feeder Courts. This is significant because the establishment of the Court in Kaduna State was one of the recommendations of a Commission of Inquiry which was setup after one of the recurring inter-religious conflicts which engulfed Kaduna State.
